This past Monday Ella Morton and camera guy Matt Finlin of www.rocketboom.com came out to videotape me. As you can see they make awesome videos, and this helps me spread the word. Matt's a great videographer and I highly recommend him and company www.camlinproductions.com to anyone in need of filming.
I saw Ella's Rocketboom video and came straight over here to find out more. What a fascinating idea! I don't live in NYC though. I am in Atlanta, where the metro is neither far-reaching nor ubiquitous.
ReplyDeleteBefore seeing the video, I thought the headline was about someone making/wearing an LED armband akin to streaming Facebook status updates on a mobile billboard. I like your idea much better. It's more out-in-the-open, interactive, and sociable.
Though being a tech geek, I can't help but envision working digital technology into this physical networking. Imagine if I can discover a handful of people a subway cars over that partake in this in-person network and share my interest... Or if I can broadcast and read the specific topics that other people are interested in discussing (e.g. Ella's mention of X-Files)... Maybe there is room for an LED/RFID armband to label and identify the network participants after all. What do you think?
Thanks for this idea! I saw the video as well and came over here to learn more. Its great to see discussion arising because of this idea. I find when I am on the bus I see many people will avoid sitting in a seat next to someone. The paradigm is that we don't talk to strangers. I look forward to hearing more about this. Perhaps I could and we can all begin to consider doing this in our own cities. Computer social networks show us whats possible. Now let's take it to the next level.
